1. Introduction

Welcome to Budgetpup, operated by ZICKLE INNOVATION LABS PRIVATE LIMITED ("we", "our", "us"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect when you use the Budgetpup app or visit budgetpup.com, how we use it, and your rights under applicable law including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act).

2. Data We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

  • Identity & Contact Data: Your name, email address, and profile picture, obtained from your Google account when you sign in with Google.
  • Financial Budgeting Data: Budgets, spending categories (buckets), and transactions you manually enter into the app. We do not connect to your bank accounts, credit cards, or any payment instruments. No banking credentials are ever collected.
  • App Preferences: Settings such as your preferred currency, theme, and budgeting preferences.
  • Technical Data: IP address, device type, and app version, collected to operate and secure the service.

We do not sell your data, show you advertisements, or share your financial data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To create and maintain your account.
  • To sync your budgeting data across sessions and devices.
  • To provide customer support.
  • To send service-related communications (e.g. security alerts).
  • To improve the reliability and performance of the app.

4. Data Processors

We use the following third-party services to operate Budgetpup. Each processes your data only as necessary to provide the service:

  • Neon (Neon Inc.) — PostgreSQL database hosting. Your account and budgeting data is stored here.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — Backend API hosting on EC2. Processes requests between the app and the database.
  • Google Firebase — Hosts the Budgetpup web app and landing site.
  • Google OAuth — Handles authentication. We receive only the profile data you authorise (name, email, picture).

5. Data Security

We protect your data using industry-standard practices: encrypted connections (TLS) between the app and our servers, encrypted connections to the database, hashed authentication tokens, and access controls that limit who can reach your data. No security measure is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). Upon deletion, all your transactions, budgets, and personal data are permanently and immediately removed from our systems — nothing is retained afterward.

7. Data Portability

You can export all your budgeting data at any time from within the app in spreadsheet (XLSX) or PDF format. No account deletion is required to access your export.

8. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023 & General)

As a user — and particularly as an Indian resident under the DPDP Act 2023 — you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Erase your personal data (via in-app account deletion or by contacting us).
  • Withdraw consent at any time (note: withdrawal may require account deletion).
  • Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see below).

9. Children's Privacy

Under India's DPDP Act 2023, a "child" is anyone under 18 years of age. Budgetpup is not directed at and is not intended for use by children, and processing a child's personal data requires verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
